UNION VETERANS’ PATRIOTIC LEAGUE ENVELOPE

$20.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 282-312

The envelope is in used condition and is addressed to a veteran named James A. Brown in Clarksburg, Ohio. The interesting thing about this item is the left side is dominated by a Civil War period photo of future President William McKinley in uniform. The Union Veterans’ Patriotic League was formed by the famous (and infamous) Union Third Corps commander Daniel E. Sickles and former Colonel L. Edwin Dudley in 1896 to help William McKinley get elected President. As stated the envelope is in used condition with some math scribbling on the back. Also on the back is a Post Mark that looks to read Oct. 16, 1896. This is an interesting little piece showing the influence of veterans in politics and also a nice shot of McKinley who served in the 23rd Ohio Infantry.
