1864 DATED DRAFT NOTICE FOR NEW YORK MAN

Pre-printed document filled out in ink. Document is from the Provost Marshal’s Office of the 13th Congressional District of New York State and is dated September 28, 1864.

The document informs Mr. Michael Powers that he was “… on the 21st day of September 1864 legally drafted in the service of the United States for the period of one year.” It goes on to state “You will accordingly report, on or before the 11th day of Oct. 1864, at the place of rendezvous in Kingston, N. Y. or be deemed a deserter, and be subject to the penalty prescribed therefor by the Rules and Articles of War.” Document is signed by John Lyon, Captain and Provost Marshal.

The document meas. approx. 8.50 inches x 11.00 inches and is in good condition with legible printing and ink. The document has one vertical and one horizontal fold line with some separations along the folds. Document should be handled carefully to avoid further separation along the fold lines.

Some quick research shows a Michael Powers on the 13th Congressional District Draft list. He is listed as being a Roman Catholic Priest.

With the item is the original cover addressed to Powers.
