Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 668-10

This piece of sheet music is for a song titled “LET ME KISS HIM FOR HIS MOTHER.” The cover explains that a young man from Maine who was visiting in New Orleans died of Yellow Fever among friendly strangers. “When the funeral service was over, and the strange friends who had ministered to him were about to close the coffin, an old lady who stood by stopped them, and said ‘Let me kiss him for his mother.’ What more lovely.”

The words and music were composed by John P. Ordway with the sheet music being published in Boston by Oliver Ditson & Co in 1859.

The piece has three verses and a chorus of;

“Sleep dearest, sleep, I love you as a brother; Kind friends around you weep, I’ve kissed you for your mother.”

There is some light foxing around the edges and a light stain in the upper left corner. Front cover is loose. Aside from these minor imperfections the item is in good condition.
