This sheet music was published in 1862 by H. M. Higgins of Chicago. It contains the words and music for the song titled “YEAR OF JUBILEE OR KINGDOM HAS COME” with words and music by someone who decided to list themselves only as “SAMBO.” The song is done in Negro dialect and is about a slave running away and meeting up with Confederate General “Bloaregard” who says he has just whipped Buel, Grant and Wallace obviously referring to the battle of Shiloh. The General also informs the slave that if he runs up “Norf” the Yankees would skin and eat him.

The chorus is:

DEN SOUND DE HORN… BEAT DE DRUM

SOUND DE HORN AND BEAT DE DRUM, DE YEAR OF JUBILEE AM COME

SOUND DE HORN AND BEAT DE DRUM, DE YEAR OF JUBILEE AM COME

The cover of the sheet music has the title nicely worked into a scrollwork decoration.

There is some light surface dirt and one minor tear on the second page otherwise the item is in good condition. Suitable for framing.
