Measures 5” x 6”, pre-printed form filled in ink. Dated “Washington, D.C. Sept 7th, 1863”.  Lieut. D. Snively of Co. G, 17th PA Cavalry was allowed to join his re-join his regiment by government boat and rail, by order of General Martindale, Headquarters Military District of Washington, DC. Signed by Capt. & Aide-de-Camp, signature illegible. Overall fine condition; fold lines, scattered soiling & light staining. Punch hole at upper left. Small fold line tear at bottom center extending approx. 1 ¼” inward from the edge.

Daniel Snively enlisted on 10/6/62 as a 1st Lt. and on that date was commissioned into Co. G, 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Promoted to Captain 3/10/65. He was discharged on 6/21/65. Snively died in 1913 and is buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Franklin County, PA.   [ld]
