This is a preprinted oath of allegiance form, filled in with pencil and ink. The document claims the undersigned will support the Constitution of the United States and those laws of the State of Virginia that were in place prior to the Convention of Secession in 1861.
The document is signed in pencil by Jas. [James] B. Lillard. Then signed and dated in ink below by the officer who took his oath. Dated November 6, 1865, in Wythe County, Virginia. Lillard’s name does appear in the Civil War Database as having served in the 9th Kentucky Infantry.
Paper is clean and in fine condition; one old fold. [jet]
