Interesting card produced early in the unit’s formation at Camp Alabama in Carlisle, PA. Card gives six members of Mess No. 5. They even adopted a motto: “Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty” and “Our God, Our Country, and our dear Friends at Home”. Card is “Compliments of W.E. Huntley”.
Huntley enlisted in Co. F on 8/22/62 as a private. He is listed as having died at Carlisle on 10/22/62 two months after mustering into the unit. On the reverse of the card is his name, “Camp Alabama Carlisle Penna”, and two scrolls with “Remember Me” and “Your Absent Friend”. Card measures 2 ½” x 3 ½”. [ss]
