As the Civil War dragged on, patriotic songs such as this became very popular. This song sheet was published in 1864 by Wm. S. Pond & Co. of New York. Words by George Cooper. Music by J.R. Thomas. Ornate design frames wording on cover. Back cover contains advertisements for song sheets by Wm. A. Pond & Co.
First verse of song reads, “Lying on my dying bed, Thro’ the dark and silent night, Praying for the coming day, Came a vision to my sight, Near me stood the forms I lov’d In the sunlight’s mellow gleam, Folding me unto her breast- Mother kissed me in my dream!.” Three verses total.
Measures 10 ¼” x 13”. 8 pages. Yellowing has occurred, with areas of spotting. Pages are tightly stitched together. Shows chipping at left margin. [sl]
