As the Civil War dragged on, patriotic songs such as this became very popular. This song sheet was published in 1863 by H.M. Higgins of Chicago. Music by J.P. Webster. Bottom center of cover shows stamped imprint from seller, Piano Fortes and Sheet Music of Rochester, N.Y.
First verse of song reads, “Father of love, Infinite god, Supremest Ruler over all, Thou hearest the young ravens cry, And noteth ev’ry sparrows fall, I trust him to thee! My heart’s last joy, Protect him Father, bless my boy! Oh! bless my boy! Protect him Father! Bless my boy!” Four verses total.
Measures 10” x 13”. 6 pages. Yellowing has occurred, with areas of spotting. Stitching remains tight at the center. Shows chipping and small tears at left side. [sl]
