Printed form filled in in ink. Measures 8” x 10”. Form details the information and personal effects of Private Benjamin F. Weidle of Company C, 149th Pennsylvania Infantry. Weidle died on May 16, 1864 of complications from a severe gunshot wound in the left elbow. Back of form lists effects, among which were 30 cents and two brass rings.
Private Weidle enlisted on August 19, 1862 as a Private. There is a possibility he was wounded at Gettysburg as he is listed as deserting from a hospital in West Chester, PA on August 11, 1863. He returned to service on December 26, 1863. He died at Harewood Hospital at Washington, DC of wounds received during the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864. [jet]
