Lorena was one of the most popular songs of the mid-19th century and especially so during the Civil War. This song sheet was published in 1857 by Higgins Brothers in Chicago. Words by Rev. H.D.L. Webster, music by J.P. Webster. Cover shows lithograph images of two couples with a man standing alone in the center by a bench, surrounded by colorful landscaping.
Words to first verse reads, “The years creep slowly by, Lorena, The snow is on the grass again, The sun’s low down the sky, Lorena, The frost gleams where the flowers have been. But the heart throbs on as warmly now, As when the summer days were nigh, Oh, the sun can never dip so low, adown affection’s cloudless sky.” Six verses total.
Measures 10” x 13 ½”. Yellowing has occurred, with areas of spotting. Pages have separated from each other. No tears. [jp]
