Vintage map came from the fold-out portion of the original edition, 1875, Appleton, of the “Shoulder Strap” Autobiography of Sherman. It was in a little pouch on the back cover. It was then later copied for the OR map book in 1895.

The undertaking of accumulating and assembling the atlas took over 30 years to complete. There are 175 plates with detailed maps of events covered in the Official Records. Map shows railroads, cities, towns, mountains, rivers, creeks, and many other landmarks.

Lower right corner of map states, “COMPILED BY ORDER OF MAJ. GENL. W.T. SHERMAN. U.S.A. AT HEAD QUARTERS MILITARY DIVISION OF THE MISSISSIPPI UNDER THE DIRECTION OF BVT. MAJ. W.L.B. JENNEY. CAPT. A.D.C. U.S.A. DRAWN BY CAPT. WILLIAM KOSSAK. ADD. A.D.C. U.S.A. AND JOHN B. MULLER. DRAUGHTSMAN. ST. LOUIS. MO. 1865”.

Map measures 32” X 47”. Comes in protective sleeve and matting. Exhibits fold creases but otherwise in very good condition with some foxing, but no chips, holes or tears.  [sl]
