The cover was directed to Eaton in Washington, D.C., with 3 cent pre-printed stamp. Cancellation is partial with town in Wisconsin unknown. Date Dec. 14. Eaton enlisted July 2, 1862 as Chaplain and mustered out July 3, 1865.
The 7th was part of the famous Iron Brigade. The regiment fought at Catlett’s Station, Charles City, Falmouth, Rappahannock Station between May and August 1862; followed by 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Laurel Hill, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna, Bethesda Church, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Weldon RR, Hatcher’s Run, Gravely Run and Five Forks.
