Garvin Wooten enlisted as a Private in Company H, 3rd Alabama Infantry on July 27, 1861 and was mustered in the following August 31. From the records it appears that Wooten was present with his company until April of 1864 when he became ill. He was in the hospital until June 17, 1864 when he returned to duty. He fell ill again in February of 1865 and appears to have been in the hospital at wars end.
The 3rd Alabama served in the 2nd Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia and saw action in all the major campaigns of that army. [ad]
