This impressive document meas. approx. 9.00 x 6.50 inches. It is preprinted and partially filled out in period ink. The upper left corner has a scene of a gentleman farmer leaning against a rail fence on the edge of a field by some woods. This area of the document also bears a faint raised seal. Looking at the seal from the reverse side of the document a palmetto tree is visible at center surrounded by “CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA TREASUERY DEPARTMENT.”

The text of the document states that two years after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the “CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA” and the United States, six percent interest would be paid on a $500 bond. No name is filled in but the ink inscriptions include the document number of “4601,” the town name of Savannah, Ga., the date of Oct. 22, 1864 and the signature of the Register of the Treasury at Richmond.

Document has a small hole about pencil eraser, or a bit smaller, size along the left edge and some light scattered foxing.  [ad]
