Small paper invitation for a “Complimentary Party” for Lt. & Mrs. C. M. Fackler. The invitation meas. approx. 3.50 x 2.00 inches with gold embossed cherubs on each side supporting floral arcs above and below the text of the invitation. The party was to be held Thursday evening April 14, 1853. Listed at bottom are two officers and several civilians who were on the party committee.
With the item is its original envelope with an embossed scrolled border on the front and addressed in period pencil to a Mrs. J. Y. Bayless.
Both items are in nice condition. Invitation has scattered light red staining.
A quick search does not show a C. M. Fackler serving in the Union army but there was a Calvin M. Fackler who served on the staff of Confederate General Gideon Pillow. More research will be needed to see if it is the same man. [ad]
