PIECE OF CONFEDERATE PATRIOTIC STATIONERY WITH HANDWRITTEN PRO- UNION VERSE

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-2329

Sheet of white, blue lined stationery meas. approx. 4.75 x 8.00 inches. Upper left corner has two full color crossed Confederate 1st National flags with a snake coiled around the crossed staffs with its head up and tongue out pointing to text “DON’T TREAD ON ME”

The following lines are handwritten on the paper in a very nice script in period ink:

THIS CURSED SNAKE, ITS CREST UPREARING

THREATENS FREEDOM TO ASSAIL

BUT SOON OUR NOBLE BIRD APPEARING

SHALL TEAR THE BEAST FROM HEAD TO TAIL

Most likely this is a captured piece of Confederate stationery with the verse written by a Union soldier, but who knows for sure. Either way it is a fun item.

Paper has some discolorations from ink smudges or dirt, mostly below the text. There is also a spot of discoloration in the shape of an envelope flap on bottom of front.  [ad]
