Undated handwritten document on lined blue paper concerning Private J. E. Price of Company C, 15th South Carolina Infantry. Document is written in period ink and meas. approx. 7.50 x 8.75 inches and is in good condition.

The document was written by one Francis Winthrope to Mr. A. C. McGillvay states that “J. E. Price of Co. “C” 15th REG SCV (22yrs old)” name was missed when the rolls were made out in December of 1864 and that the Doctors attention should be brought to the matter.

J. E. Price enlisted on August 16, 1861 as a private in Company C, 15th South Carolina Volunteers. He was absent sick during the winter of 1861/62 and returned to the regiment on April 12, 1862. He was present for the battles of South Mountain, Gettysburg and Chickamauga. In the last named battle Price was wounded and sent to a hospital in Lexington, South Carolina. He returned early in 1864 and was present for the action in the Wilderness, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. On July 28, 1864 he was admitted to the Jackson General Hospital in Richmond. The records do not state when or where Price was discharged.

Online records do show a Francis Winthrop who served as a hospital steward in the Confederate Army.
