Ink on 7 3/4” x 3 ¾” lined blue paper. Dated Head Quarters Artillery, Polk’s Corps, Camp Wright, May 19th 1863.  The ink, once black, has faded to a brown; the blue of the paper has faded also.  Minor chipping along left and lower edges.

“Major B. J. Butler: Please deliver to Capt. Humphreys, (of) McCowan’s Div. One hundred 100 pounds Fresh Beef.  Capt. & ACS [Assistant Commissary of Subsistence]”.

The location of Camp Wright is unknown at this time, but may be in Georgia or Tennessee. The order is written on paper which has gotten through the Union blockade. The ink, once black, has faded to a brown; the blue of the paper has faded also.  [ld]
