Preprinted document on white paper. Item meas. approx. 8.00 x 10.00 inches and has a smaller document attached. The larger document is in fair condition with masking tape supporting a fold on the bottom third of the paper.

The document is for George Bowman who served as a private in the Missouri Home Guard. It shows that he was paid $74.15 for service from June 16, 1861 to November 6, 1861. Document is signed for Bowman by his attorney at bottom and bears a faint impressed seal over the signature.

The smaller document attached to the reverse deals with Bowman’s Power of Attorney allowing his lawyer to act on his behalf.

George Bowman served in Captain Claiborn Woods Company of the Stone County Missouri Home Guards which was a three month unit organized in May of 1861.

The Stone County Home Guard was organized May 1861 under the orders of General Lyon for the protection and preservation of peace in Stone and Barry Counties. The guard was mustered out July 19, 1861.  [ad]
