Doran was a resident of Wilmington, IL when he enlisted as a private on 5/19/64; mustered into Co. G on 6/21/64.  Mustered out 10/14/64 at Camp Butler, Springfield, IL.

The 138th Illinois was mustered in at Camp Wood, Quincy, Ill., for 100 days service on June 21, 1864. Stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, during the month of July, the unit was mustered out October 13, 1864. During service it lost 13 men disease.

An unusual service certificate—issued to a regiment of 100-day volunteers from Illinois who enlisted to assist Sherman’s 1864 campaign against Johnston & Hood, but who spent a month at Ft. Leavenworth instead, losing 13 to disease. Excellent service certificate collectible.
