Cloth case opens up to reveal a painting of Confederate General Thomas J. ”Stonewall” Jackson on an ivory background. It has a decorative bright brass oval border around the image, which folds around the back of the ivory. Case is covered in purple cloth, which has faded, and is lined in ivory colored silk.
Behind the image, there is a handwritten inscription on the inside of the case which reads, “AURBURN NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 15, 1864”.
This painting is based on the Matthew Brady 1853 image of Jackson in his Virginia Military Institute uniform.
Case measures 3” x 2 ½”. Some surface dirt is present, and on the back of the case at the top, are some small holes in the fabric. Paint colors are bright, with no flaws at all on the image.
This is a rare find for a collector of Items pertaining to Confederate generals, Jackson in particular.
