This is a large framed and matted group of images. The gilt frame measures 35” x 29”. The highlight of this group is the original 13.5” x 9.25” watercolor of the winter camp of the 153rd PVI in Brook Station, Virginia. The painting was done by Newton H. Mack who was a drummer in Company K. The Next to the original is mounted a photograph of the artwork pasted to what appears to be a book page, copyrighted 1895. Under these are three images of Mack at various ages. The original watercolor is in color, albeit muted winter colors. There is a train, wagons, the 153rd camp in the foreground, and another camp visible in the distance. Original art is in excellent condition.
The 153rd PVI was organized at Easton September, 1862. They were attached to 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 11th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. They served in the defenses of Washington, D. C.; the reconnaissance from Chantilly to Snicker's Ferry and Berryville, Va.; the march to Fredericksburg; Burnside's "Mud March"; Battle of Chancellorsville; Battle of Gettysburg; pursuit of Lee.
