Pvt. Spang joined the 15th on 8/22/62 at the age of 40. Born in 182, he was an accomplished artist. At some point he was transferred to Co. E. Mustered out on 6/21/65 at Nashville, TN. Spang died on 3/11/1898 and is buried in Montgomery Cemetery in West Norriton, Montgomery County, PA; others buried in this cemetery include Winfield S. Hancock, Samuel Zook and John Hartranft.

Sketch measures 7” x 4” and is mounted to an old mat with masking tape. View is of “Citico Creek Tenn”. Signed in lower right corner, “O.S. Spang Nov. 5th 1864”. Also signed on the reverse with “Citico Creek Tenn”. Shows a lone sentry on a small bridge, with his musket on his shoulder.  [ss]
