The artwork offered here is the original ten panel strip of “DON WINSLOW OF THE NAVY.” This artwork was submitted and signed by the strip’s creator F. V. Martinek on the reverse.

The comic strip and later movies based on it were used as recruiting tools for the Navy especially in the pre-war period. The character of Don Winslow was created in 1934 and the strip ran to 1955.

This framed item is in good to excellent condition. The paper is mostly clean with only a small water stain along one edge. All the ink is crisp.

The reverse of the frame has a clear panel allowing one to view the text as typed along with the signature of the creator of the strip.

Framed the item meas. approx. 25.75 x 19.00 inches. Strip has a white mat and an engraved brass plate that reads “DON WINSLOW OF THE NAVY-ORIGINAL ARTWORK / MAY 28, 1944.”
