Colorful and skillfully done pen & ink drawing painted with watercolors showing the uniform of the 5th Princes Charlotte’s Guard circa 1810.

The artwork shows an officer wearing a black bicorn with a yellow over red plume. His waist length coat is red with a dark blue collar. He wears yellow epaulettes on each shoulder with piping of the same color running down the front of the jacket with seven horizontal rows across the chest which get progressively shorter as they move down the front. Each sleeve has four yellow chevrons, points down. Trousers are white and the subject wears knee high black bots and at his waist is a red sash with white belt. He leans on his saber.

All colors are bright. Item is in very nice condition and comes ready to hang.

The artwork is signed “R. Dobson.” The only artist by this name that could be found was Robert Dobson who lived from 1860-1901. He is known for working in watercolors. American by birth he is known to have spent some time in Scotland.

Artwork is single matted and framed. The framed piece meas. approx. 7.50 x 12.25 inches. Frame is modern.

Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales was the only child of George, Prince of Wales (later King George IV), and his wife Caroline of Brunswick. She was the granddaughter of King George III. She died at the age of 21 in 1817.  [ad]
