“NOTICE.

HEAD QUARTERS/ 71ST Regiment N.C. Militia/ Winston, N.C. June 20th 1863/ Captain:

I have just received the enclosed Order from Lieut. J.H. Anderson, Enrolling Officer tor the 6th Congressional District.

I have also just received General Order No. 11 from Gov. Vance, ordering me to immediately assemble my regiment in order to make out a full and complete roll of every free white male between 18 and 45 years of age in this regiment, liable to militia duty.

You will therefore appear at Winston on the 6th and 7th days of July next, with the company under your command, by 9 o’clock, A.M., each day, in order for re-enrollment of conscripts under Lt. Anderson’s order, and also for enrollment of the Militia under Gov. Vance’s order.

You will make out and return to me by the second day of July next, a full and neat roll of your company, setting forth the name of every free white male within your district, between the ages of 18 and 45 years old. There is be no exceptions, every one must be enrolled---without regard to office or any thing else, and all are expected to attend on the days above stated. You will make this order known in every part of your district.

The 71st North Carolina reserve infantry was comprised of the 2nd and 5th brigades of state troops and was also call the Second Regiment of Reserves. Documentation included. Extremely rare North Carolina Civil War Militia broadside. Excellent collectible.
