Presented here is an original military discharge document for Civil War soldier James Haman who joined the three-months 20th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry regiment on 26 April 1861. The document, pre-printed by the government in 1861, measures 8½" x 11" and contains the vital information on Haman handwritten in black ink. Haman completed his term of service and was discharged on 6 August 1861. Signature of the US mustering officer at Philadelphia is at the bottom right corner. Document is in two sections as it has been folded and refolded, forming a center crease causing the paper to separated along the folds. Paper exhibits scattered spots of foxing and ink bleed through with just minor surface soiling. A modern paper tag accompanies the document and gives a brief military history of James Haman during his later service with the 118th PA Volunteer regiment during the war.
