This Eagle masthead discharge is filled out in legible ink for Private Charles B. Page of Company B, 2nd New York Heavy Artillery. The document has browned some with age and has one vertical and two horizontal fold lines. It is stamped in three places with a 1901 Department of Finance stamp. The upper right corner has a faint Paymaster’s stamp and a notation in red ink from 1868. The discharged is signed at bottom by the 2nd Lieutenant Franklin Brooks of Company B.
Charles B. Page was 29 years old when he enlisted as a Private in Company B, 2nd New York Heavy Artillery on August 15, 1862. The regiment was assigned to the defenses of Washington until May of 1864 when it was assigned to the Army of the Potomac’s 2nd Corps. It saw action from Spotsylvania to Sailor’s Creek. During his service Page reached the rank of Corporal but was later reduced to ranks.
The discharge comes in a modern black frame.
