Asst. Surgeon Henry B. Cole was commissioned into Field and of the 128^th New York Infantry, 12/4/1862, and was discharged 5/18/1863. At the time this pay voucher was issued the 128^th New York was embarking for duty in Louisiana, where it would participate in the Siege of Port Hudson and the Red River Campaign. In the of summer of 1864 the regiment would return east to join in Gen. Sheridan’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign, afterwards posted to the South Atlantic theater, where it was mustered out in Savannah, GA, 7/12 1865, During service the unit lost 60 men killed and mortally wounded and 203 to disease for a total of 266. This voucher covers the first month of Surgeon’s Cole’s service; he was discharged five months later in Louisiana during the Siege of Port Hudson.   [jp]
