Document exhibits fold-marks and light yellowing. Else VG.

Pvt. Horn’s unit, the 1^st New Jersey Cavalry, was organized, August 14, 1861. It was deployed against Jackson during the latter’s 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, and was engaged again at Cedar Mountain against Jackson. Transferred to the AOP Cavalry Corps in September 1862, it participated in most of the major battles and eastern cavalry actions, including Gettysburg and was present at Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. Major battles and actions during this stretch included Fredericksburg, Brandy Station, Gettysburg, Bristoe Station, Weldon Railroad & Saylor’s Creek. Mustered out 7/24/1865, it lost during service 128 men killed and mortally wounded and 189 by disease for a total of 317.
