2 ¼ page letter in ink on 8” x 10” paper. Dated Acworth, GA, June 6, 1864. Written by Andrew Dieffenbach of Company E, 57th OVI, 1st Brig., 2nd Div, 15th Army Corps.
The letter is directed to “My Dear Friend”, and talks of furlough for veteran re-enlistment, then going back to the front and on May 1st started the present campaign. He tells of his unit’s charge at Resaca, GA and the losses – 42 killed and wounded. Praises his friend for his work with the wounded in the hospital, etc. Dieffenbach writes that they will be in Atlanta in several days.
Andrew Dieffenbach enlisted at the age of 34 on 9/30/61 as a Sergeant; on that date he mustered into Co. E, 57th Ohio Infantry. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 6/16/85; mustered out on 8/14/65 at Little Rock, AR.
Overall in good to very good condition; light scattered soiling. Fold lines with three small tears; 1 tear at lower edge along fold line of pages 1 / 2. Small, minor stain at lower right corner of page 3. All text clear and legible.
