Two documents related to the Battle of Fredericksburg! The first is the actual orders that put the 9th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry in motion and into the Battle of Fredericksburg! Issued on December 11th 1862, these orders detailed the movement of the regiment for the following morning, which was the 1st day of the Battle of Fredericksburg. This battle ended up being a slaughter of Union troops, with an estimated 12,653 causalities being suffered after repeated attacks on Marye's Heights. The well entrenched Confederates had little trouble repulsing the Union attacks. The full transcription is as follows:

 

Hd. Qrs. 1 Brig 2 Div 9 A.C.

Near Falmouth Va. Dec 11. 1862

Colonel,

You will have your Regiment in readiness to march at early dawn tomorrow.

You are expected to keep up the supply of rations to 3 days.

One gill of whiskey will be issued to every man before starting. It can be obtained from Lt. Keys A.C. Sub. early in the morning.

The second document is a copy of General Orders No. 188 at Falmouth, Virginia on November 29th, 1862. Given by order of Major General Burnside. These orders are signed by Brevet Colonel Edward M. Neill, “Edward M Neill / Capt& Ass’t Adj’t Gen’l”.
