The document is a Power of Attorney appointing John M. Richardson to act for George Bowman who was serving as a private in the Missouri Home Guard. Paper is dated February 8, 1864 and bears Bowman’s mark.

George Bowman served in Captain Claiborn Woods Company of the Stone County Missouri Home Guards which was a three month unit organized in May of 1861.

The Stone County Home Guard was organized May 1861 under the orders of General Lyon for the protection and preservation of peace in Stone and Barry Counties. The guard was mustered out July 19, 1861.    [ad]
