The front cover features a montage of three illustrations depicting the Marshall House in Alexandria, and the shooting scene in which Col. Ellsworth was shot by tavern keeper Jackson, himself then dispatched by Zouave trooper Brownell. Center. Plus a brief article titled “The Murder of Ellsworth”, who had been a young friend of President Lincoln. Center-fold illustrations feature a Federal mortar battery at Ft. Pickens, FL, and a “Bivouac” of Confederates at Las Moros, Texas, with “stolen” U.S. wagons.
In condition, near fine with tiny mounting holes along left margin, plus scattered spots of slight interior foxing, plus one small scotch-taped tear, 3” in length. Otherwise handsome, and a fine Civil War Harper’s ferry collectible.
