Front cover features striking split level illustrations of a “Wounded Zouave in the Hospital at Washington”, and “The Hospital the Wounded at Washington.” Interior illustrations include an intriguing double page split-level center-piece depicting various “Uniforms of the [1861] Confederate army,”—from such units such as “The Washington Artillery of New Orleans”, “The Kentucky Rifle Brigade”, “Alabama Li”, etc. Also “action” illustrations of “The Rescue of Colonel Smith’s Command at Monroe, Missouri, By Governor Wood of Illinois,” and the “Return of A Foraging Party to Philippi, Virginia.”

Exhibits mounting dots and light chipping of left margin, and slight soiling of lower right corner. Else fine, w/smooth cover. Solid early-war issue, solid collectible. In protective sheath, w/white card backing.
