Front cover features a dramatic full-length sketch of “The Flag-ship “Hartford” Attacked By the Ram “Manassas” and a Fire-Raft In the Mississippi.”, w/accompanying story “The “Hartford” in the Mississippi.” Interior sketches include  portrait of  Robert Smalls and the gun-boat “Planter” that Smalls, a slave, had hijacked and run  out of Charleston to the Union blockading fleet. Also a sketch of the “Feeding of Negro Children Under Charge of the Military Authorities at Hilton Head, South Carolina.” Along with a fascinating center-spread montage of “News [scenes] From the War.”

Exhibits mounting dots and light chipping along the left margin. Else fine, w/smooth cover. Solid collectible, superb illustrations.
