Front cover features story of “The Bombardment of Fort Sumter” and half page illustration” “General Thomas Swearing in the Volunteers Called into the Service of the United States at Washington, D.C.” Interior illustrations include “The Interior of Fort Sumter During the Bombardment”, and a “Map of Charleston Harbor Showing Fort Sumter and the Confederate Batteries”—[story page 57]. Also a dramatic centerfold depicting the “Bombardment of Fort Sumter By The Batteries of the Confederate States, April 13, 1861”. Plus portrait sketches of “President Lincoln—[Photographed by Brady]”, and “General P.G.T. Beauregard”, as well as four striking rear cover cartoons.

Exhibits slight chipping along right edge, else fine. All pages are separated, and appear to have been trimmed along their edges. Excellent collectible. With this issue, Harper’s Weekly begins its coverage of the American Civil War. In protective sleeve, w/ white card backing.
