Vol. VI—No.296. 16 pp. [545-560], four columns, with numerous illustrations and cartoons. Front cover features full length portrait of “Brigadier-General Michael Corcoran, Late Colonel Sixty-Ninth Regiment, New York State Militia.” Corcoran had formed the Irish 69th New York prior to the war, and gained notoriety by refusing to parade the unit in honor of the visiting Prince of Wales. He later led it at Bull Run, where he was captured. Following parole he was promoted to Brigadier, and left the 69th to form the Corcoran Legion, consisting of 5 New York Regiments. Mortally injured while by being thrown from a horse in 1863, Corcoran was heavily mourned by all Irish troops, and the 69th New York in particular, which became a notable regiment in the famed “Irish Brigade.” Interior illustrations include a full page action sketch of “John Morgan’s Highwaymen Sacking A Peaceful Village In the West”. Also a panoramic double-page spread of “The Battle of Cedar Mountain, Fought August 9, 1862”.

Exhibits mounting dots and light chipping along left margin, and one slight, unobtrusive inward cover tear on right margin. Else near pristine, w/smooth cover. Highly collective. Superb piece for Irish Brigade collectors. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing.
