Front cover contains braking coverage of John Brown’s October 1859 raid on Harper’s Ferry, as well as sketches of: “Ossawatamie Brown” and “The Insurgent Capt. Aaron C. Stephens”, and an illustration, “The Volunteers Shooting Insurgents Who Had Taken Refuge, .” By Swimming To A Rock, Throwing Others Off the Bridge. Interior illustrations include: [1] “The U.S. Marines Storming the Engine House—Insurgents Firing Through Holes In the Wall”, [2] Attack On the Insurgents At the Bridge By the Railroad Men”, [3] “Governor Wise, of Virginia, Examining the Wounded Prisoners in the Presence of Senator Mason, The Report of the N.Y. Herald.”

Exhibits light chipping of left front cover. Else VG plus, w/ smooth cover. Superb collectible, containing the first braking Frank Leslie’s coverage of the John Brown Raid. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing.  [jp]
