Front cover features story and portrait sketch of Gerrit Smith, one the “Secret Six”, the prominent group of abolitionists that financed the John Brown raid on Harper’s Ferry. Interior illustrations includes the following Harper’s Ferry-related sketches—“The Prisoners Cook, Coppic, Greene and Copeland Receiving the Sentence of Death”—“Capt. Cook Brought Out of Jail”—“Old John Brown’s Residence, Kennedy Farm, Maryland”—“House in Which John Brown’s Pikes Were Found”—“School House Taken Possession of By Captain Cook.”

Exhibits light chipping of left cover margin, w/ one miniscule stain on the lower cover margin. Else VG plus, w/smooth cover. Excellent Harper’s Ferry collectible. In protective sleeve w/ white card backing.   [jp]
