Front cover story discusses Admiral Farragut’s Operations in Mobile Bay and their Military Significance. Lower cover contains four sketches of incidents at Petersburg, VA, following the mine explosion, July 30. Interior illustrations include panoramic full page depiction of “the Charge of the 2nd Division, 2nd Army Corps, into the Crater, July 30, 1864.” Also a split-level centerfold featuring two additional “Siege of Petersburg” sketches—“Explosion of the Mine and Charge on the Enemy’s Works By the Ninth 9th Corps,’ and a “View of the Rebel Works After the Explosion and Battle.”
Exhibits mounting dots and slight soiling of lower cover margin. The cover has a Harper’s Weekly cover [June 25, 1864] taped over it, on the left margin in three places. Else VG, w/ smooth Frank Leslie’s cover. Solid “Battle of the Crater” Issue. Good collectible. [jp]
