John T. Stuart of Stuart & Edwards, was Lincoln’s early law partner, before Lincoln set up his own firm in 1844, taking in young William Herndon as his partner. Herndon & Lincoln’s partnership remained intact even after Lincoln’s election, remaining so until the latter’s assassination in 1865. Herndon’s later three volume memoir of his years as Lincoln’s law partner—“Herndon’s Lincoln”—is a key Lincoln reference source. This issue of the “Daily Illinois State Journal” exhibits only one slight fold-line, and is near mint condition. A magnificent Lincoln legal collectible, in protective sleeve.  [jp]
