This MOBILE DAILY TRIBUNE has short articles about the war, ads for auctions, steamboats, public notices, and goods for sale. Most notable is an ad for, “SWORDS FOR OFFICERS” by Louis Bissonnet.
Louis Bissonnet (1819-1885) was born in Paris, France to a family of gun makers. He immigrated to New Orleans in 1856, moved to Mobile around 1859 and is listed in the 1860 census as a gunsmith. Very few of his swords still exist. He was noted for field officers swords and cavalry sabers.
Paper is in good condition and most ink inscriptions are readable. Some light wrinkling and fold marks are present. Edges have light chipping and there are some very small tears in the center crease.
Measures 15 ½” X 22 ½”. [sm]
