The front cover features a montage of three illustrations depicting the Marshall House in Alexandria, and the shooting scene in which Col. Ellsworth was shot by tavern keeper Jackson, himself then dispatched by Zouave trooper Brownell. Center. Plus a brief article titled “The Murder of Ellsworth”, who had been a young friend of President Lincoln. Center-fold illustrations feature a Federal mortar battery at Ft. Pickens, FL, and a “Bivouac” of Confederates at Las Moros, Texas, with “stolen” U.S. wagons.
In good condition; separated at vertical center fold line between pages 380 – 381. Otherwise handsome, and a fine Civil War collectible. [jp/lcd]
