Front Page – The Assassination – The Trial on Thursday. More Interesting Evidence Given. Payne’s Case not Yet Reached. Arnold’s Complicity and Confession. More evidence as to the locale of the Tragedy.

Testimony of Lewis Wickham – a boarder at Mrs. Surratt’s house, who described a meeting between Booth, Payne, and John Surratt at the boarding house. He also gives testimony about  Mrs. Surratt . He was a clerk in the war department and remains a mysterious figure in the history of the assassination, who may have known more than he admitted, and may have been a rebel spy at the War Department. He was a lifelong friend of John Surratt and school mate at divinity school. And he admitted to meeting both Atzerodtt and Dr. Mudd as well.

Testimony of John Greenwalt, James Walker, and William Clenendin and several other witnesses about the defendant Atzerott. Clemendin found the knife Atzerott threw away when he abandoned his attempt to murder Vice President Johnson.

Testimony of Rev. W. H. Ryder who found a letter in the confederate archives addressed to Jefferson Davis about a plot to burn northern cities and shipping. It alludes to a Professor of Chemistry at Princeton University who can perfect the incendiary devices.

Testimony of Judge Abram Olin, on his examination of the box at Ford’s Theater the day after the assassination, and his discovery of the brace in the box door that JW Booth used to bolt the door behind him. And a hole that was bored thru the door to permit Booth to see inside the box. He arranged the chair Lincoln was sitting in as precisely the same location as the murder and was able to determine that Booth could see Lincoln thru the hole in the door. He sat in Lincoln’s chair and noticed “ I thought I would discern where his head rested; although the covering was red, the marks of several drops of blood were visible”

Also on Front Page – Paroling of Joe Johnston’s Confederate Army. Paroles for 29,000 rebel soldiers (more than Lee surrendered at Appomattox). . Lists of paroles for Joe Johnston’s army, General G.T. Beauregard, Generals Lomax, Stewart, Walthall, Loring, Anderson, S.D. Lee, Stevenson, Hardee, Hoke, Cheatham, Butler (Cavalry), and Admiral Semmes.

Page 8 – The Assassination  - Additional testimony

Testimony of Major Rathburn, who was in the box with Lincoln, and was stabbed by Booth. He describes removing the bar in the door to allow surgeons to enter the box.

Testimony of Isaac Jacquett, who helped carry Lincoln’s body to the Peterson house, who then went back to the Ford’s Theatre box and found the bar to the door.

Testimony of Joseph Lemmins – who helped decorate the box before the assassination, and put the rocking chair in place that Lincoln was sitting in. He gives testimony about conspirator Spangler.

Testimony of Lt. Toffey about JW Booth’s other horse, which was blind in one eye.

Testimony of William Eaton and Lt. Terry about searching John Wilkes Booth’s room at the National Hotel. He states he found a letter from “Sam” (conspirator Samuel Arnold) to Booth, which implores him to return to his first plan (kidnapping Lincoln).

Testimony of Ethan Homer about Samuel Arnold’s confession of being part of the aborted plot to kidnap Lincoln in January 1865, but not being part of the murder conspiracy.

Testimony of Mr. Thomas about Dr. Mudd. Who claims Dr. Mudd told him the President and all abolitionists would be killed within six or seven weeks. He claimed Mudd said this in March, a month before the assassination.

Additional evidence submitted included a telegram from Booth to Louis Weichman, asking him to arrange for John Surratt to reply to him. Weichman was the most damaging witness against Mrs. Surratt and John Surratt, and it is generally regarded by historians that he perjured himself at the trial, and was at least knowledgeable about the conspiracy, if not an active participant.
