Niles’ National Register, July 20, 1839. Fifth Series, No. 21 – Vol. VI. Pg. 332 – 336. At front page, center column, is “WEST POINT ACADEMY” presenting a “list of cadets admitted into the institution in June last . . .” Ulysses S. Grant is named as one of the three cadets from Ohio.

Many of the other cadets named here would later serve in the Union or Confederate armies: Christopher C. Auger (named here as “Columbus Auger”); Henry F. Clarke; William B. Franklin; Samuel G. French; Franklin Gardner; Edmund B. Holloway; Rufus Ingalls; Henry M. Judah; John J. Peck; Joseph H. Potter; Isaac F. Quinby; William F. Raynolds; Joseph J. Reynolds; Roswell S. Ripley; Henry R. Selden; Frederick Steele.

Measures approx. 8 ½” x 11 ½”; very good condition. Fold lines, light scattered foxing, staining.  [ld]

VERY SCARCE 1799-1800 SWAN CONTRACT VIRGINIA MILITIA REGIMENTALLY MARKED MUSKET: 42nd REGIMENT, PITTSYLVANIA
