This issue of Scientific American is Volume 7, Number 25, dated December 20, 1862. The front page has three wonderful engravings, one of a Burnside carbine, another of the patent drawing of the breech and loading mechanism and a drawing of a Burnside cartridge. The accompanying article covers the weapon itself and the patent awarded to General Burnside.

Other items in this issue is the launching of the USS KEOKUK, rapid dry collodion photography, moist sensitive photographic plates, gun cotton and gun powder, new experiments with guns and targets and numerous other interesting technical articles as well as a list of patent claims.

The issue runs 16 pages. This issue was taken from a large bound volume so the binding is weak. Paper has aged some but is otherwise very nice.  [ad]
