Front cover features “The Murder of Ellsworth” and a dramatic illustration of his killing at the Marshall House in Alexandria, VA. Interior illustrations include a panoramic illustration of a “Company of Secession Cavalry Surrendering to Colonel Wilcox, of the First Michigan Regiment, in front of the Slave-Pens at Alexandria, Virginia.” Also, an interesting full-page illustration of a “Bivouac of Confederate Troops on the Las Moras, Texas, With Stolen U.S. Wagons.”
First two pages detached, w/taped repair of lower right cover. Exhibits light chipping at the margins., and slight yellowing overall. Else VG, w/smooth front cover. An excellent early war Harper’s Weekly collectible. In protective sheath w/white card backing. [jp]
