Vol. XLII-Number 41. 4 pp., 20.5 x 26, eight pages.

This paper was published in the May 1863 interlude between the Battle of Chancellorsville and Gen. Lee’s initial movements north into Pennsylvania. Hence, it is packed with considerable war news, from a Rhode Island perspective.

The front-page features correspondence from “Third Regiment [RI], Beaufort, SC”, and from “Rosecrans’s Army”, and a congratulatory message to “The Second Regiment [RI], from their Colonel Rogers. Also, front page dispatches from Gen. Grant’s Army and Gen. Hooker’s Army, and capsule telegraphed war summaries from all the states. As well as a reprint of Richmond article reporting “The Circumstances of Death of Stonewall Jackson.”

The rear page features articles on “The Health of the Tenth Army Corps,” Grierson’s Raid Through Mississippi,” and “The Killing of [Confederate General] Van Dorn by Dr. Peters.”

In all, a fine newspaper collectible for Rhode Island Civil War aficionados and Providence antiquarians. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing.  [JP]
